Thomas Scerri (b. 1990) is a multimedia artist based in Malta. His work often explores subjects beyond the surface value and this usually leads to abstraction. While the forms are mostly influenced by nature and the surroundings, they are primarily driven by the unconscious and dictated by the material. Thomas frequently challenges the boundaries between the man-made and the natural. While doing so, his work often aims to raise concerns about the potential consequences of unsustainable human intervention.
Thomas studied at the University of Malta achieving a BFA and MFA in Digital Arts. Throughout the years, Thomas has experimented with various materials, and currently focuses mostly on sculpture and lens-based media. He has been exhibiting his work locally for the past 6 years at respected galleries such as Spazju Kreattiv, Lazuli, Iniala 5 and Malta Society of Arts and has also exhibited internationally at the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie, Arles, France under the curation of renown photographer Tadashi Ono. In 2018, he won first prize in Shifting Contexts at Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta in collaboration with Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.
