The different papers to be presented in this art-historical conference will focus on some aspects of the varied and multi-faceted artistic legacy of the island of Gozo, ranging from Baroque Art, nineteenth and twentieth-century architecture, both ecclesiastical and secular, to Modern and Contemporary Art, and the story of the island’s museums. The speakers are a mix of resident academic members from the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Malta, and alumni of the same department.  Taken holistically, the papers aim to shine a critical, art-historical light on the artistic heritage of the island.  The conference therefore presents itself as a vehicle for the celebration of Gozo’s identity and a platform for art-historical dialogue.
